Record & power

Power score	53

Country momentum 0 — Quarterly momentum: the Bureau's read on the country's trajectory over the last quarter, from −10 (deteriorating fast) to +10 (accelerating).

Why it matters

Averted default: the $500M sukuk repaid; Fitch upgraded to CCC (June 2025).
Ras Malé: the $20bn Eagle Hills waterfront and marina (54,000 jobs promised).
Opposition crackdowns and press pressure since 2024; the Rilwan murder legacy unpunished.
Pivoted to Beijing and the Gulf, then rebalanced toward Delhi — the classic atoll straddle.
