Why it matters

Rules the Arab world's most populous state — the Suez Canal and the region's weight in his hands.
Built the New Administrative Capital, expanded the Suez Canal, and tamed the 2024 currency crisis via the $57bn UAE deal.
BRICS member since 2024; $1.3bn/yr in US military aid; deep Gulf financial ties — hedged on every side.
The debit: tens of thousands of political prisoners; torture documented; free press extinguished.
