Why it matters

Two decades at the top of a state straddling three continents — NATO's second-largest army answers to him.
Delivered mega-builds (Istanbul Airport, Çanakkale Bridge, Akkuyu) and a booming drone-export industry.
Brokers between East and West — Ukraine grain diplomacy, balanced Russia ties — while pitching disinflation.
The debit: the $18B fund crisis hitting 455,758 investors; Imamoglu in prison; tens of thousands purged since 2016.
