• Rolling back Orbán-era anti-LGBTQ laws and reorienting foreign policy: expelled 10 Russian diplomats on 2026-09-08. Seeking a US sanctions-waiver extension for Russian energy shows the transition's pragmatism.
• GDP grew 1.7% in H1 2026; the OECD and Commission see 1.6–1.8% for the year. Inflation is 3.8% and the deficit runs at 6.1% of GDP — the fiscal inheritance is heavy.
• Reversing the LGBTQ crackdown restores dignity to a targeted community. Education and health systems need the EU funds Orbán's fights had frozen.
• NATO and EU member; the new government is repairing both relationships. President András Baka (elected 2026) shares the reform mandate.
