Why it matters

Completed debt relief (HIPC) and financial reforms; GDP growth 4.1% (2024); but the term-extension fight consumed 2026 and al-Shabaab resurged.
Mogadishu port modernization (Turkish); road corridors; oil exploration licensing — all hostage to security and the political crisis.
Constitutional crisis paralyzed politics; poverty reduction stalled in 2025; youth face al-Shabaab recruitment or emigration.
AU/AUSSOM security backing; US and Turkey counterterrorism partners; relations with Ethiopia strained over the Somaliland port dispute.
