What happened in Crimea in 2014?

On November 21, 2013, a suspended agreement set Kyiv ablaze; by March 18, 2014, Russia had signed Crimea’s annexation — and a European border had moved.

The short answer

Borders in Europe were supposed to be finished business. Then, between November 2013 and March 2014, a suspended trade agreement in Kyiv became a revolution, a revolution became a flight — and a flight became an annexation. Crimea moved, and Europe has not been the same since.
