Why it matters

No civilian record; the transition's sole credential is organizing the December 6, 2026 elections. Embaló announced September 29, 2026 he will return October 4 to run — legality disputed.
No megaprojects; infrastructure ambitions reset with every coup.
Citizens are bystanders to yet another military intervention in one of the world's most coup-prone states.
ECOWAS condemned the coup; transitional authorities navigate regional pressure while the electoral commission reported armed men seizing ballots.
