Israeli Strikes Across Gaza Kill at Least Eight as the 'Ceasefire' Frays

A minibus in Gaza City bore the brunt — six dead, fifteen wounded. Apartments, shelters and streets were hit across the Strip in a single day of violence under a truce that reads thinner by the week.

Wednesday began like any other day in Gaza — and ended with the hospitals full. Israeli strikes on residential areas across the Strip killed at least eight Palestinians and wounded dozens, according to Palestinian officials, in one of the bloodiest single days since the ceasefire of last October.

The heaviest blow fell in Gaza City. An Israeli strike hit a minibus in the Tel al-Hawa district, killing six people and wounding fifteen, medical officials said. Nearby, a residential apartment close to al-Shifa Hospital was struck; at least one woman died, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

And the violence was not confined to the capital. In southern Gaza, an Israeli drone hit a shelter housing displaced people, wounding four Palestinians including two children, according to Wafa. Two more Palestinians were seriously wounded by Israeli forces southeast of Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, while tank fire was reported in southern Khan Younis.

Beneath the surface of these tallies, the hospitals are telling their own story. The Palestine Red Crescent Society, which runs ambulance and emergency services, said its crews brought thirteen wounded to al-Quds Hospital. Medical sources told Al Jazeera the injuries were critical — and, as Al Jazeera's Hind Khoudary reported from Gaza City, the number of dead could rise in the coming hours, with doctors struggling to save lives in a health system decimated by years of strikes and blockade.

Meanwhile, the numbers keep their own ledger. Gaza's Health Ministry, which compiles casualty figures from hospitals across the territory, said in its Wednesday daily update that the bodies of at least nine people had arrived at hospitals in the preceding 24 hours. Since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began last October, at least 1,431 Palestinians have been killed and 5,026 wounded — including 31 in the past day alone.

The consensus

What we agree on
Israeli strikes hit residential areas across Gaza on Wednesday; at least eight people were killed; the Tel al-Hawa minibus strike was the deadliest single incident; the Red Crescent carried thirteen wounded to al-Quds Hospital; the Health Ministry's 24-hour tally stands at nine bodies.
What we disagree on
What to call it: "ceasefire violations" is the Palestinian framing — the argument is in the naming itself. And whether hospital counts capture the full toll, or only what reaches the hospitals.
What we know
The places hit — Tel al-Hawa, near al-Shifa, southeast of Deir el-Balah, southern Khan Younis; the per-source casualty figures; the ministry's cumulative totals since October.
What we don't know yet
The final death toll — the injuries are critical and doctors warn it could rise; and what the strikes were targeting, since no Israeli military account appears in the reporting.
What we expect
The toll to be revised upward in the ministry's next update; more strikes possible in the coming days; and mounting international pressure on a truce that is fraying in plain sight.
